Monthly Health and Nature Walk

Being in nature is proven to make us feel happier. Join this monthly walk in Gillespie Park, Islington's largest nature reserve, and watch the seasons change as we talk and chat. The walk is guided by Jo who will speak about the wildlife and the history of the park. We will walk for around 45 minutes, depending on the attendees. There are several places to stop and sit throughout the park. We will then return to the Ecology Centre for free tea, coffee and biscuits.

This walk especially welcomes those living with dementia and their carers, but is open to anyone.

There are disabled access toilets available at the Ecology Centre.

The walk is not suitable for wheelchairs but buggies are fine. The walk is on well trodden paths but they are not flat or tarmacked. They may occasionally be a little muddy but we will avoid very muddy areas.

Jo, the guide, has taken the Dementia Friends training run by the Alzheimer's Society.

You do not have to book - just turn up for 10am at Islington Ecology Centre. We are the blue wooden building just inside the park entrance on Drayton Park.

There is one disabled car parking space outside the centre and room for another car.

We are a 4 minute walk from Arsenal tube station. Just turn right outside the station and follow the road around the bend. The entrance to the park is on your right hand side.

Nearest bus stops are on Blackstock Road. It is around 8-10 minutes walk from Blackstock Road to Islington Ecology Centre. Walk down Gillespie Road until you see Arsenal tube station. Keep going another 3 minutes as the road bends round. The entrance to the park is on your right hand side.
